General Hamid Gul was a prominent Pakistani military officer who served as the Director-General of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) from 1987 to 1989. Born in 1936, he played a significant role during the Soviet-Afghan War, supporting the Afghan Mujahideen with strategic intelligence and coordination. Known for his strong nationalist views, General Gul was a vocal supporter of Pakistan’s strategic depth in regional politics. He remained a controversial yet influential figure due to his outspoken opinions on foreign policy and national security. Even after retirement, he continued to appear in media, offering insights on defense and geopolitical matters. His critics viewed him as a hardliner, while supporters praised his patriotism. General Hamid Gul passed away in 2015 but left a lasting legacy in Pakistan’s military and intelligence history.
